Potatoes "Belmondo" are considered a medium early variety, the period from the emergence of most shoots to technical maturity is from 70 to 80 days. Like most varieties of potatoes, "Belmondo" has a conditional ripeness that comes a little earlier than the technical one.

Read how to grow an early potato variety here.

Reference. Technical maturity - the potatoes have reached their optimal size and have a thick, strong skin. Conditional maturity - the potato is of normal size, the skin is thin, fragile, lagging behind. However, a flaky peel indicates an immaturity of the tubers.

"Belmondo" according to the inspection commission has a round - oval shape, average size - about 9 cm in diameter, weight - about 120 grams. The peel is yellow, firm, smooth, the eyes are small, shallow (superficial).

You can compare the indicators of the mass of tubers and the starch content of Belmondo potatoes with other varieties using the table below:

Variety nameStarch content (%)Tuber mass (gr)

The presence of shallow eyes in potatoes greatly facilitates packing, washing, cleaning and other processing. "Belmondo" is distinguished by a bright yellow color of the pulp. The starch content in this variety is about 16%, which is average. Potatoes do not boil because they have a low level of starch.

Shoots of the potato variety "Belmondo" have the following distinctive characteristics:

  • High stem bush, spreading.
  • The leaves are located intermediate, typical for potatoes in shape, dark green in color, wrinkled in structure, no pubescence, waviness of the edge is weak.
  • Flowers usually come with a dark red or light purple corolla.

Climatic growing zones

Test plantings in the Tula and Vladimir regions were most favorable. According to the manufacturer, landings are permissible throughout the territory of the Russian Federation, in European and other countries.

"Belmondo" produces an excellent harvest, about 80 tons per hectare, deviations up or down depending on the regions. The variety has practically equal tubers in size, a small proportion of small and large root crops. Many tubers develop from one plant.

In the table below you can see what the yield is and how many tubers are in the bush for other potato varieties:

Belmondo is a table variety. Intended for human consumption.

Potatoes contain a lot of nutrients (vitamin C, B, potassium, phosphorus, protein, etc.), which are used for cosmetic and medical purposes - against edema, tumors, some prevention of increased blood pressure.

Yellow potatoes contain a large amount of carotene - an antioxidant substance that performs a cleansing function in the body.

It is not recommended to eat green or sprouted, soft root crops, they contain many times more poisonous substance - salonin than in healthy strong tubers, refuse such tubers or cut off the peel as thick as possible.

Taste qualities

"Belmondo", judging by the reviews, has excellent taste. Yellow potatoes are considered the tastiest. The good taste of young potatoes was noted, there are a lot of cooking recipes. This potato does not boil soft, it is great for making salads, soups, it is not very suitable for making mashed potatoes. Suitable for frying and boiling whole. Good fries.

The most useful way to use it is roasting in the oven or in charcoal in a peel, cooking "in uniform" also preserves many vitamins.

Features of growing and storage

You need to prepare the right soil for your potatoes. In the fall, it is necessary to dig up, remove excess roots of weed grass, apply fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus, nitrogenous fertilizing is carried out already in the presence of plants in the soil, pesticides are also needed.

About what to feed potatoes, when and how to apply fertilizers, how to do it correctly when planting, read the articles on our website.

In the spring, the site should only be dug up. Belmondo likes to go deeper, so the soil should be loosened as deep as possible. Planting begins in April and ends at the end of May. Potatoes must not be planted at very low or high temperatures.

It is good to use calcium nitrate for the formation of strong tubers that can be stored for a long time, it must be applied at the root... "Belmondo" forms a lot of root crops, so the distance between plants should be more than 20 cm.

Early and mid-early varieties should not be overexposed in the ground, so "Belmondo" must be removed on time. Further cultivation of the variety is no different from other main varieties - weeding, hilling, loosening, feeding, watering, mulching.

Read about how to grow potatoes without hilling and weeding here.

"Belmondo" does not germinate with a single removal of shoots. You need to store at a constant temperature - from 1 to 4 degrees above zero... The room must be dark and dry.

For information on how to properly store potatoes in winter, on the balcony, in boxes, in the refrigerator and peeled, read the additional materials. And also about the timing, temperature and storage problems.

Diseases and pests

Has a high resistance to late blight, black mold, black spot, rhizoctonia, scab, tops and tubers rot.

You should not plant potatoes next to tomatoes and apple trees - they have common pests, and in general, Belmondo showed decent results in tests.
